“As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God?” When in grave distress, we seek the familiar and the known, because we are certain that the face we have grown to love will give us hope and comfort. Perhaps Jesus when He was about to near His death, thought of His Mother, who so lovingly embraced Him and possibly contemplated her great “Yes” which shook the entire universe. So as Jesus continues His journey to the crucifixion, He longs for the face of God, because it is only through that face that our souls find rest.
